Cursor's modes: Agent, Ask and Plan
Know when to let Cursor build (Agent), when to only ask questions (Ask), when to make it plan first (Plan), how to point it at exact lines of code, and how to review, keep or undo every change it makes.
Why this matters
So far you've used Cursor one way: type a request, and the Agent changes your files. That's powerful, and it's also risky when you only wanted to understand something. Ask "why is this button red?" in the wrong mode, and the AI may decide to "fix" it.
Cursor has different modes for different jobs. Picking the right one is like a builder knowing the difference between "look at this wall and tell me what you think" and "knock this wall down". Professionals switch modes many times an hour.
Equally important: the AI will sometimes change things you didn't ask for, or change them badly. In this lesson you'll learn to read what it changed, keep what's good and undo what isn't. That habit, never accepting a change you haven't looked at, is one of the six jobs that always stay yours.
